In George Orwell's dystopia novel 1984
Sometimes I wonder if our nation still believes we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Are people so willing these days to surrender their liberties to feel safe? My faith in the American people to have the wherewithal to recognize the dangers of this type civil liberty intrusion does not bode well. Color me a cynic, but our growing reliance on government to take care of the collective by erecting a police state for the sake of security instead promoting and defending liberty is well documented. People were naive enough to think the Patriot Act's "sunset" laws commence and retire. That sun did NOT set as many skeptical liberty minded folks had predicted. The results should not be surprising when you have a citizenry addicted to all things government. I pray some will see the light before we get up to participate in our two minute hate. Oh, that's right...it's all Goldstein's fault.
